Long before the beaches and resorts along the Polish coastline got devoured by the contemporary face of tourism, local small businesses used to be one of the main attractions in the area. One of them was the smoking chamber ‘U Mieci,’ famous for its top quality smoked fish. This year, we have a special treat for all those who not only miss that taste, but also the holiday vibrations of old. We invite you to a screening of the documentary film ‘Bałtyk’ directed by Iga Lis, and also to a meeting with the film director, both of which are going to take place during the 23rd edition of the BellaTOFIFEST International Film Festival!

In the début film, its director gives voice to Miecia, the Queen of Łeba. There is always a lot of tourists and local residents queuing up in front of the smoking chamber she runs. Her professional success is the fruit of strenuous work and ambition, but the price to pay is serious health issues. Miecia is fully aware that she will need to let go eventually, but not a day passes by that she does not worry about the future of her shop. And regardless of how much heart and dedication her workers keep putting in it, there is a good reason to fear, as more and more businesses run by locals fall prey to big corporations and chain stores.

‘Bałtyk’ is a nostalgic journey to the Polish seaside, in search of people’s stories and authenticity. This original début from Iga Lis was already widely applauded by film critics and cinema goers on the very day of its première.

Following the screening of the film that will take you down the memory lane, feel invited to the meeting with the film director Iga Lis.
