Léon: The Professional – the Main Theme of the 23rd BellaTOFIFEST International Film Festival!

An antihero with a sensitive heart and an iconic figure of 1990s cinema. Some critics claim that when Luc Besson created this character, he knew from the start he was crafting a cult classic. This year with great joy we fulfill the dreams of film lovers and proudly announce “Léon: The Professional” as the main theme of the 23rd BellaTOFIFEST International Film Festival!

This 1994 cinematic classic is a story about emotion, tangled bonds and how a professional killer can become a public favorite and move even the most hardened hearts. It’s a film where the seemingly dark character is not necessarily the villain. “Léon: The Professional” is ultimately a phenomenon that has left an enduring mark on the history of cinema and pop culture. The unforgettable performances – not only by Jean Reno, but also his co-stars Natalie Portman and Gary Oldman – are nothing short of acting masterclasses.

“’Léon: The Professional’ has consistently ranked among the most requested films by our audience,” says BellaTOFIFEST IFF Director Kafka Jaworska. “Its creator, Luc Besson – who has flirted with various film genres – has always amazed with his freshness and innovation. Today, he's known for spectacular blockbusters, but we want to revisit his earlier, remarkably diverse achievements,” she adds.

During this year’s festival, we will present The Great Six of Luc Besson on the big screen. Alongside “Léon: The Professional” (1994), the special film section will include five other must-see titles that are essential to understand the artistic journey of the director: “Subway” (1985), “The Big Blue” (1988), “La Femme Nikita” (1990), “The Fifth Element” (1997), and “Joan of Arc” (1999).

The 23rd BellaTOFIFEST International Film Festival will take place from June 28 to July 4 in Toruń, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. As every year, we invite you to join us at the Festival Center at Cultural and Congress Centre Jordanki, Cinema City, the Artus Court Cultural Center and the open-air cinema.
